TextRelay Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 25, 2026
Effective date: June 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how TextRelay handles information. TextRelay is a local-first plain-text relay for temporary text, built to help you paste, store briefly, clean, extract, and recombine text on your own device.
TextRelay is designed to work without any network connection. This is intentional: the app's core features do not require internet access, accounts, servers, cloud sync, analytics, or advertising.
By using TextRelay, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Summary
TextRelay is designed to keep your text under your control.
- TextRelay works fully offline for its core features.
- TextRelay does not make network requests for its core app functionality.
- TextRelay does not create an account for you and does not require you to sign in.
- TextRelay does not operate a custom backend for storing your text.
- TextRelay does not sell your personal information.
- TextRelay does not use third-party advertising, advertising identifiers, behavioral tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs.
2. Information Stored on Your Device
When you use TextRelay, you may create or import information such as:
- Plain text you type or paste into the editor
- Text imported from the system Share sheet or Action extension
- Text recognized from images using on-device OCR
- Recent text history
- App preferences, including font size, search engine choice, and detection settings
This information is stored locally on your device using the app's local storage and shared app container where needed for the main app and its extensions. We do not receive, upload, sell, rent, or share this content.
You can delete local app data by deleting records inside the app where available, or by removing the app from your device. Your operating system may retain backups according to your device, Apple ID, iCloud, or backup settings.
3. Information We Do Not Collect
TextRelay does not collect, store on our servers, or transmit:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or contact list
- Location data
- Photo library contents
- Calendar data
- Health data
- Clipboard contents
- Text editor content
- Imported text
- OCR results
- Text history
- Device identifiers
- Advertising identifiers
- Analytics events describing your app usage
TextRelay does not build a profile of you and does not attempt to identify you from your text.
4. On-Device Processing
TextRelay processes content locally on your device:
- Plain-text editing happens on-device.
- History entries are saved in local storage.
- Big Bang phrase splitting and text recognition run locally.
- OCR for shared image input uses Apple's on-device system Vision capabilities.
- Share and Action extensions use a local app group container to pass imported content to the main app.
Your text and images are not uploaded to TextRelay servers. TextRelay has no servers for user content.
5. Clipboard, Share, and OCR
TextRelay may read clipboard text only when you use a feature that is designed to import clipboard content, such as launch clipboard import when enabled. Clipboard content is used to populate the editor or history locally and is not sent anywhere by TextRelay.
When you import content through Share or Action extensions, TextRelay extracts supported text locally. If an imported item is an image and no text attachment is available, TextRelay may run on-device OCR to recognize text. The recognized text is stored locally as app content.
TextRelay does not keep the original shared image as an online record and does not upload it for OCR.
6. User-Chosen External Actions
TextRelay may offer actions such as copy, share, search, translate, call, SMS, or maps based on text you select. These actions are initiated by you.
If you choose an action that opens another app, website, phone service, SMS composer, map service, search engine, or translation service, that external app or service may process the text you provide according to its own privacy policy. TextRelay does not control those external services.
The availability of these optional external actions does not change TextRelay's offline-first design: the app itself can be used without a network connection.
7. Permissions
TextRelay requests only permissions needed for features you use. Depending on your device and workflow, this may include access through system interfaces such as clipboard, Share sheet, Action extension, or image input provided by another app.
TextRelay does not require location, contacts, calendar, health, microphone, or camera access for its core text workflow.
8. Third-Party Services
TextRelay does not integrate with third-party services for:
- Analytics
- Advertising
- Crash reporting
- Behavioral tracking
- Cloud storage of your text
There are no embedded third-party SDKs that collect your app content.
9. Data Retention
Text content, OCR results, history entries, and preferences remain on your device until you delete them, reset app data, or uninstall the app, subject to your operating system and backup settings.
Because TextRelay does not upload your content to our servers, we cannot access or delete copies that may exist only on your device, in your device backups, or in other apps where you choose to copy, paste, share, or save content.
10. Children's Privacy
TextRelay is not directed to children for the purpose of collecting personal information. Because the app does not require accounts, advertising identifiers, analytics tracking, or a custom backend for user text, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to us through a direct communication channel, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
11. Security
TextRelay is designed to minimize data exposure by keeping your text on your device. No method of local storage or transmission is completely secure, so we recommend keeping your device, operating system, and Apple ID protected with appropriate security settings.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and publish the revised policy at this URL.
If TextRelay introduces new features that collect, sync, or transmit additional personal information, this Privacy Policy will be updated to describe those practices before or when the feature becomes available.
